Maximum relative energy error as a function of \(\pmb{\Delta r_{\mathrm{buff}}}\) in unit of \(\pmb{\Delta t_{\mathrm{soft}} \sigma}\) . Here σ is the global three dimensional velocity dispersion of the system (\(=1/{\sqrt{2}}\)). For all runs, we use \(\eta=0.1\), \(\Delta t_{\mathrm{soft}}=1/512\), \(t_{\max}=\Delta t_{\mathrm{soft}}/4\), \(\theta=0.1\) and \(\Delta r_{\mathrm{buff}}=3\sigma\Delta t_{\mathrm{soft}}\).
